The power of a good covering letter

When writing covering letters to send out to potential employers, it can be tempting to write down absolutely every reason why you are perfect for the job. How can anyone argue with that?

But the key to impressing someone with your covering letter is to keep is short, snappy and different and to let your CV do the talking.

Don’t write the classic, ‘I believe that this is the perfect role for me because…’. Instead, think of a different way of approaching it by saying something like ‘I’m a keen worker who is itching to take my first steps into this industry.’ ‘If you like the look of my CV then please spare me a few minutes of your time so that I can come and chat to you about future opportunities.’

By writing an interesting covering letter, you are more likely to have your CV read. And that’s your time to shine.
